Admission levels
Admission levels for Tunisian applicants are as follows:
Holders of the DEUPC 1st cycle university study diploma (Bac + 2)
At the end of the second year of the preparatory scientific cycle (Bac + 2), a first university degree (DEUPC) is awarded by the preparatory institutes for engineering studies to students who meet the required conditions. This degree allows them to continue their university studies in one of the branches of engineering (depending on the specialty and the interest of the student). Holders of the DEUPC who have completed their preparatory cycle at IPSAS (in MP, PC and PT) or in another private higher education institution with a preparatory cycle are also accepted.
Candidates admitted to the national entrance exam to engineering schools or those declared on the waiting list (Bac + 2)
Each year, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research organizes the national entrance examination to engineering schools. It is intended for students who have completed two preparatory years in a preparatory institute for public and private engineers. Candidates admitted or placed on the waiting list are allowed to join one of the engineering courses at IPSAS. In this case, the DEUPC is not required.
Holders of applied and basic license diplomas (Bac + 3 LMD)
They constitute the majority of candidates admitted to the engineering cycle at IPSAS. They come from specialized institutes (ISIMS, ISGI, ENETCOM), faculties of science (FS) or higher institutes of technological studies (ISET). They hold a degree in technological fields.
Holders of a Master 1 and 2
Holders of a Master 1 (bac + 4) or a Master 2 (bac + 5) in technological specialties are accepted in the second year of engineering. The duration of studies in this case is only two years instead of three.
For foreign candidates, three categories of diplomas are accepted:
Holders of the Tunisian or foreign DEUPC (Bac + 2)
International students who have successfully completed preparatory cycle studies in their own countries, in Tunisia, within the public or private sector, are eligible for enrollment in one of the engineering courses within IPSAS. International students holding a DEUPC who enroll at IPSAS are mainly from its preparatory cycles (MP-PC-PT).
Holders of applied and basic license diplomas (Bac + 3 LMD)
International students holding Tunisian bachelor’s degrees (from public and or private institutions) in the various fields of technology are eligible to enroll in one of the IPSAS engineering courses.
Holders of foreign BTS or DUT diplomas (Bac + 2)
They constitute the majority of international students who are recruited each year within IPSAS to follow one of the IPSAS engineering courses.
Admissions procedures
The application for registration for any engineering course is made by pre-registration online or at the IPSAS offices. The IPSAS website opens different windows for Tunisian and foreign candidates. For each course, a committee made up of at least three teachers from the department concerned makes a preliminary selection based on well-established criteria:
consistency between the candidate’s diploma and the chosen engineering training;
number of repetitions;
PFE score.
The preselection is followed by an interview by the members of the committee concerned. The candidate must bring certified copies of his diplomas (Bac, diplomas, transcripts, certificates of achievement, etc.) The purpose of this interview is to assess the scope and level of the candidates’ previous studies, in particular in the basic sciences that are related to the targeted branch. In this way, the Institute ensures that the candidate’s previous studies and abilities are sufficient to meet the required objectives. After the interview, the committee accepts or refuses candidates or places them on a waiting list.
The Admissions Board may recommend additional courses in specific subjects (including French) based on the grade level deficiency. In this case, the final admission of candidates to IPSAS will depend on their agreement to enroll in the recommended courses. These courses are organized at the beginning of the academic year in the form of accelerated courses outside the course calendar specific to the course. The costs of these courses are borne by IPSAS and not by the student. The Admissions Committee may also direct applicants to an engineering program other than the one to which they have applied based on their ability and educational background.
For international students, the admission procedure remains the same with the possibility of carrying out interviews.
